Internal System & Digestion - Frequently asked questions

Internal System & Digestion - Frequently asked questions

Why should I use Cavalor® Hepato Liq ?

The liver plays a vital role in the general metabolism of the horse (which enhances performance). Numerous chemical transformations take place in the liver, therefore the liver is responsible for a number of important functions. The herbal components in Cavalor® Hepato Liq are known to have hepato-protective reactions. Other components may also help support the body in excreting waste products from the bloodstream through urine. Cavalor® Hepato Liq works best when administered after heavy competition seasons or during molting.

What are some common liver issues and symptoms?

Specific symptoms pointing to liver problems arise only when a high percentage of the liver is already damaged. In earlier stages of liver damage non-specific signs like : low appetite, weight loss, poor coat condition, diarrhea, stomach pain, restlessness and fatigue may occur. Jaundice and photosensitivity of non-pigmented skin may also be related to liver disease.

Horse owners should contact a veterinarian when a liver problem is suspected. Forage and pastures should be checked for poisonous plants. Also check forage and concentrates for contamination due to mold. Avoid feeding anything contaminated with mold!

Can I supplement with Cavalor® Hepato Liq if my horse is currently taking other supplements?

Yes you can.

Can I use Cavalor® Digest for maximum 6 to 8 weeks consecutively?

Cavalor® Digest contains active ingredients that bind specific mycotoxins.

The active ingredients in Cavalor® Digest may bind with nutrients (minerals and vitamins) provided in the diet when used for prolonged periods. As a result, the absorption of these nutrients may be decreased and the risk of nutrient deficiency may increase.

Optimal functioning of the micro flora in the large intestine is essential for the overall health of the horse. By using Cavalor® Vitaflor 365 an improved feed utilization ( especially of fibre-rich rations) and gastro intestinal health which will aid in the overall immunity of the horse.

Does Cavalor® Vitafor 365 contain prebiotics or probiotics?

Cavalor® Vitaflor 365 contains prebiotics (FOS) and probiotics (yeasts). Live yeast cultures support lactic acid by using the bacteria present in the large intestine and may help increase tolerance for high starch diets; the risk of colic may decrease as a result. Yeast improves the digestibility of crude fibers, absorption of minerals and B-vitamins (as well as the production of these vitamins). Thus, a higher yield from the feed may be obtained when yeast is provided, especially in the fibre-rich diets. Prebiotic compounds like inulin are non-digestible feed ingredient that positively affect the animal by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of beneficial bacteria in the large intestine. Prebiotics help prevent upregulation of harmful pathogenic bacteria. This may result in improved gastrointestinal health and immunity.

Inulin is not stored in the body, therefore, a daily administration is necessary to maintain the desired effects.

Will Cavalor® Vitafor 365 help my horse put on weight?

Yes, it will help the efficiency of the horse’s digestion. The horse can render more energy from fibre-rich feedstuffs. Cavalor® Vitaflor 365 is especially effective when the horse does not have access to good quality roughage.
